How To Measure A Lake

Here are some guidelines for finding out the size of your lake or pond.

Measuring Volume (by foot)

Exact Square/Rectangular Bodies of Water:
L x W x D x 7.5 = Gallons

Circular or Elliptical Bodies of Water:
L x W x D x 5.9 = Gallons

*L=length, W=width , D=depth

Measuring For Acre Ft.

Gallons ÷ 325,851.6 = Acre Ft.

L x W ÷ 43,560 = Surface Acre

Example Calculation:
1 acre x 5 ft deep x 325851.6 = 1,629,258.00 gallons of water
